Postal Services halted in some areas due to Hurricane Florence

The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) has suspended operations in several ZIP Code areas likely to be impacted by Hurricane Florence. Post Offices are closed, and mail delivery has been stopped in many areas in the path of the storm. The USPS notes there is a possibility of late or non-deliveries for some residential and business customers in the affected region.  

Please keep this in mind for any Bill Pay items who's destination lies on the East Coast in the path of the storm.

Per Reg CC changes, Mobile Deposits will now require a restrictive endorsement in order for the members check images to be accepted for mobile deposit processing.

 All mobile deposited checks will require a printed endorsement with these four words “For Mobile Deposit Only” and the members Capitol Credit Union account number or printed endorsement with the words “For Mobile Deposit Only” at Capitol Credit Union . If a members handwriting is not clear, and the system is unable to read the “For Mobile Deposit Only” endorsement on the back of the check then their check image will not be accepted for processing. Once a check image is accepted by the system, If the credit union is not able to read the CCU account number or verbiage “at Capitol Credit Union”, then it  will reject the mobile deposit for processing.

July 1st required Mobile deposit Endorsements that CCU will accept are: 

Members signature matching payee name on front of the check on all official checks, insurance checks, state or government checks 

And the exact endorsement of: 

Option 1 ---- For Mobile Deposit Only at Capitol Credit Union 

Option 2 ---- For Mobile Deposit Only #123456 (CCU acct#)

Making Travel Plans – Let Us Know

If you are traveling this summer, let us know of any Capitol Credit Union ATM or debit cards you will be using while you’re out of town.  If we see transactions that are out of your normal usage patterns, and we are unaware of your travel plans, we may block your card to prevent further suspicious transactions.  Make sure your contact information is up to date in case we do need to contact you regarding your accounts while you are traveling.

If you are traveling out of the country make note of the countries we currently block signature based transactions from, due to a high rate of fraud stemming from those countries.

We recommend you travel with several types of payment options, such as a debit card, credit card, and cash, in case one option doesn’t work at a particular place or merchant.

If you are planning on renting a car during your travels and would like to use your debit card as a payment method, please contact us prior to making payment arrangements with the agency as Capitol Credit Union blocks debit card transactions from car rental agencies as a result of certain car rental agencies’ policies and procedures.

If you don’t already have a debit card with your CCU checking account, contact us and we will be happy to order one for you.

Consumers Should be on Alert for Fraudulent NCUA Text Messages

The National Credit Union Administration has received additional consumer calls about suspicious text messages claiming to come from the agency.

The messages read: “National Credit Union Administration Alert for (recipient’s phone number). Contact 844-234-5445.” Other fraudulent phone numbers to be alert for are 855-340-1398 and 844-906-0773. 

These texts are not communications from NCUA. The agency does not seek personal information through the internet or on the telephone.

Please contact NCUA’s Consumer Assistance Center at 1-800-755-1030 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Eastern if you receive one of these messages, as well as the credit union and local law enforcement.

You may also contact the Internet Crime Complaint Center, a partnership between the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the National White Collar Crime Center. 

NCUA operates an online Fraud Prevention Center that offers information about avoiding frauds and scams on its website.

If you suspect you may have become a victim of identity theft because of this scam, you should immediately contact the three major credit bureaus and request a fraud alert be placed on your credit report: Equifax (888-766-0008), Experian (888-397-3742), and TransUnion (800-680-7289). 

Text Phishing Scam Alert

We have been made aware of a phishing scam circulating via text message from phone number 844-234-5445 or the National Credit Union Administration.

The message reads: “National Credit Union Administration Alert for (recipient’s phone number). Contact 844-234-5445.” 

This is NOT a communication from the NCUA or Capitol Credit Union. We do not seek personal information through the internet or on the telephone.

If you provided any information to these numbers or feel that your account information has been compromised in any way, please contact Capitol Credit Union immediately at 512-477-9465 or 800-486-4228.
